Appropriate news coverage regarding violence against women and feminicide, without discriminatory stereotypes and in tune with the advances of women's rights and gender equality, can contribute to changing mentalities and diminishing VAW. Much still needs to be done considering the emerging fundamentalist discourses, as well as the global backlash against women’s rights.

Teodora Vázquez was imprisoned for over 10 years in El Salvador under the abortion law. She was accused of murder after complications in her pregnancy. There are other 25 women in prison with similar accusations.

Due to the absolute ban on abortion in El Salvador, women are frequently imprisoned for up to 30 years. Although the topic is part of the public debate, legislative changes are far from being realized.

Though there is still no public debate about Feminicide in France, recent legislation has begun to recognize gender-based murder but it is far from a priority for French authorities.
