While the majority of grants and projects are identified and initiated by the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung European Union, we welcome proposals that align with our values and make a positive contribution to our programmatic work.
Grant applications should fall within or across our general work areas:
- Future of Europe, EU Democracy and Digital Rights
- Foreign and Security Policy, Migration and Asylum Policy
- Trade, Agriculture and Climate Policy
- Economic and Social Policy
- European Energy Transition
- Gender Democracy
For our open call for proposals, we support projects with up to 15.000 EUR that focus on the EU and provide policy-relevant insights and analysis, promote public debate, raise awareness, strengthen civil society capacities, and foster collaboration and networks.
Application process
We are accepting applications from June until September every year for projects for the following year with a period of implementation between January and October. For projects proposals for 2025, the deadline for application is Friday 18 October, 23:59 CEST.
We understand the effort and time involved in applying, and will carefully review each project proposal, giving it the attention and consideration it deserves. After submission of your proposal, you will receive an e-mail acknowledging receipt of your application. Should your application be successful, you will receive a reply within two months.
You can find the application form here (or at the bottom of this page). The form should be filled in in English and be submitted via e-mail at: info@eu.boell.org with the subject line: Project proposal - [organisation’s/person’s name].
