Mareike Moraal headed the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Washington, DC's Energy & Environment Programme from 2023 to 2025.

Before joining the Foundation, Mareike conducted research on European climate policy, carbon pricing, and environmental justice at the University of Groningen, and worked as a lecturer at Maastricht University (the Netherlands). She holds a LLM in Energy and Climate Law from the University of Groningen. She also studied at the Universities of Maastricht, Freiburg, and George Washington University.
