Maria José Magalhães is Full Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto. Her doctoral thesis was on feminist and women’s agency. She received the Award Carolina Michaelis de Vasconcelos – Research on Women’s Studies/1990. With several publications on preventing and combatting VAWG, femicide and feminist movement, she was the Leader of the transnational Project “Bystanders: developing bystanders responses among young people against sexual harassment”, funded by EC and the Principal Investigator (PT) of the transnational Project “Cultural Encounters in Intervention Against Violence”, funded by HERA – ESF. Currently, she is member of the European Observatory on Femicide, scientific coordinator of the Observatory of Women Murdered of UMAR (Portugal), PI of the Project “BO(U)NDS: Bonds and Boundaries – Longitudinal Study on School-based Gender Violence Prevention Programmes”, funded by the FCT, and member of the Project FEM_United: Preventing IPV and DV Femicide in Europe, funded by REC of the European Union.
