Dr. Dorothea Wehrmann is a senior researcher at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS). She has a background in sociology, holds a PhD in Political Science, and has been investigating the politics of the Arctic and Antarctic since 2013. Constant throughout her career has been an interest in societal responses to global challenges. Her publications relate to cooperative frameworks in policy-making processes, legitimacy studies, and (critical) geopolitics. She is author of the book “Critical Geopolitics of the Polar Regions” (Routledge, 2019) and co-authored the monograph “Sustainable Urban Development in the European Arctic” (Routledge, 2025), which presents the findings of an international research project that she co-led from 2020-2025.
