Civil Partnership Act and the Gay Community

“For the first time in Poland there will be Members of Parliament who are openly gay: Robert Biedroń - former leader of ’Campaign Against Homophobia’ and Anna Grodzka - head of the Trans-Fusion Foundation. Both came into parliament on the ticket of Palikot’s Movement. Of course, this does not immediately change the situation of gay people in Poland. PO and PSL will supply half of the MPs and it is almost certain that they will, again, form a coalition, which means that the situation will remain stationary. But there is a chance for a civil partnership act. If the PO were interested in working on the issue, the law could be passed with the votes of Palikot's Movement and PO alone. With support from some MPs from SLD and PSL the project could even pass if not all PO members were supportive. The biggest problem the LGBTQ community is facing now is to prepare a civil partnership act which is well written. Should it include straight couples? What paragraphs should it include? This as well as lobbying the PO will be the immediate challenge.“
