Lilia Shevtsova is a nonresident senior fellow in the Center on the United States and Europe, part of the Foreign Policy Program at the Brookings Institution. She has researched and published extensively on issues related to post-communist transformation, democratic transition, Russia’s domestic and foreign policy, political leadership, new independent states, relations between Russia and the West, the Eastern European transformation and developments in Ukraine.
She has been featured in numerous publications and is the author and co-author of 20 books, including Yeltsin’s Russia: Myths and Reality (Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, 1999), Putin’s Russia (Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, 2005), Russia –Lost in Transition: The Yeltsin and Putin Legacies (Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, 2007) and Lonely Power: Why Russia Has Failed to Become the West and Why the West Is Weary of Russia (Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, 2010).
