Bas Eickhout, born in 1976, is a Dutch politician and Member of the European Parliament for The Greens/EFA since 2009. In the ninth legislative term, Bas was the Vice-Chair of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON). Additionally, he is the delegation leader of the Dutch Greens in the Parliament and was one of the two lead candidates for the 2024 election campaign. After the election, he was elected Co-Chair of the Greens/EFA Group in the EP, together with Terry Reintke from Germany.
Bas studied Chemistry and Environmental Science at the Radboud University and lives in Utrecht. Since 2000, he worked as a researcher at the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. As a scientist, he co-wrote the climate reports of the IPCC, the UN organisation that maps climate change.
