Hugh Lovatt

Hugh Lovatt is Policy Fellow and Israel/Palestine Project Coordinator for the European Council on Foreign Relations’ Middle East and North Africa Programme, where he joined in August 2012. He co-authored ECFR’s influential 2015 report on ‘EU Differentiation and Israeli settlements’.  Prior to this, he worked as a researcher for International Crisis Group and as a Schuman Fellow in the European Parliament focussing on Middle-East policy. Hugh Lovatt  is regularly interviewed or quoted in international media, including by France24, al-Arabiya, RFI, The Guardian, El País, El Mundo, DPA, Reuters, L’Humanité, Libération, L’Express, France Culture, ABC Radio, Al Monitor, Haaretz, Yedioth Ahronoth, The Jerusalem Post, i24news, Anadolu Agency, IRIN, International Business Times, The National, RT News and Vice News. He studied Arabic at the Institute for Arab and Islamic Studies at Exeter University as well as at the Institut français du Proche-Orient in Damascus. Hugh then went on to earn an MA in Near and Middle Eastern Studies at the London School of Oriental and African Studies, where he majored in Anthropology.
