Gema Fernández Rodríguez de Liévana

Gema designs and leads legal strategies for cases and projects in the areas of violence, discrimination, and women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive rights. She coordinates legal work groups, works with the Communications Department to design strategies to support our legal work, and seeks the strategic partnerships necessary for successful completion of our projects. Before joining Women’s Link, Gema worked for a civil and commercial law firm for three years.

Prior to her work for Women's Link she worked at the legal department of Spain’s Institute of Women and the legal department of the Gender Violence Delegation of the Spanish Government, where her duties included the coordination of gender violence policies under Spanish law.

She has taught master-level courses on International Cooperation at the Institute for Cooperation and Development of the Complutense University of Madrid.

Gema completed a law degree and a postgraduate degree in International Relations at the University of Madrid, where she also obtained the title of Equality Agent, granted by the university’s Institute of Feminist Studies. Additionally she holds a certificate in International Women’s Human Rights Protection from the Women’s Human Rights Training Institute.

Currently Gema is a visiting fellow at the Centre for Women, Peace and Security at London School of Economics.
