George Ghali

George Ghali is Executive Director at ALEF Lebanon, an organisation that works on the Syrian refugee crisis and in particular on the protection and human rights of refugees. In ALEF George has managed several projects on promoting protection mechanisms against arbitrary detention, the prevention of torture, the abolition of the death penalty and the Syrian Refugee Monitoring Unit (SRMU). Through the SRMU, George has also coordinated the different advocacy interventions at the national and international level. Additionally George participated in a number of roundtables and international conferences with regard to the Syrian crisis and refugee crisis in general. George Ghali holds a BA in International Affairs and Diplomacy and is finalising his MA in Political Science – Human Rights from Notre Dame University (NDU), Lebanon. George authored and co-authored a number of refereed and non-refereed articles on several human rights issues with relation to Lebanon and the MENA region.
