Who we are

Located next to the European Parliament and only 800m from the European Commission and the Council, the Brussels office of the Heinrich Böll Foundation is situated literally at the heart of the European Union (EU).

Since its establishment in 1998, the Brussels office has represented the Foundation in contacts with European and international institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and associations, industry, academia, the diplomatic community and the media.

In our work we seek to further democracy and political and structural change worldwide by:

  • Empowering “grassroots” NGOs to voice their interests and wishes at an EU level and participate as equal partners in European decision-making processes;
  • Providing a platform for dialogue between NGOs and governmental institutions;
  • Promoting the Green perspective at a European level.

Our activities include organising events such as the “Böll Lunch Lectures” series involving a broad range of EU stakeholders, co-ordinating visitor programmes, leading EU-focused capacity building sessions, and preparing topical publications presenting ideas and concepts to serve as a basis for discussion. The development and implementation of EU projects in strategic partnerships with local partners is also an important aspect of our work.
