How the EU Can Strengthen and Build New Alliances for a Global Climate Deal in Paris

With the decision on the EU 2030 climate and energy framework, a core part of the EU’s offer to the international community has been agreed. However, the EU’s offer on climate finance and adaptation remain key elements that are yet to be decided. These are vital for trust and building confidence among countries but so far, the importance of adaptation has been underrated in the negotiations and considered an issue mainly for developing countries. With many of the EU’s natural allies prioritizing adaptation and resilience, including Africa, LDCs, AILAC and AOSIS, there is an opportunity for the EU to strengthen its diplomatic strategy.

The 3rd Policy Brief discusses how Europe can best form strategic alliances for an ambitious and fair global climate deal in Paris.
